Snake-bites on the increase as floods sweep through

TELRADIO/MAY 21 - The number of snake-bite incidents and the impact on animals too have been heavy with rains continuing in Sri Lanka for the past six days as the death toll in floods, landslides and lightnining rose to 26 with more than half a million displaced.
Hospital officials said that as many has 30 persons have been hospitalized due to snake-bites mostly in the Gampaha district while the people have been warned to take precautions of  being stung by poisonous snakes.
At least one crocodile was hit by a train in Horape, close to Ragama in the outskirts of Colombo and people in the area warned of the possibility of more crocodiles in the area.
Dogs and cats, poultry farms and pets too have been affected due to the raging floods with water levels further rising.
Further in the north western province an elephant attacked a man killing him on the spot  during the heavy rains, the Disaster Mangement Centre reported.
